We are a mother-daughter team. We send original art to small suppliers in India, Bali and Java. There our designs are put on fabrics such as cotton, rayon, denim or silk. In Bali and Java our fabric is hand-painted or hand-batiked.
One supplier we work with in Java taught batik with the Asian Women's Empowerment Project. Before her family business was devastated by the ‘06 earthquake, she was distributing our work in “ Batik City ” to women who otherwise would have to leave their families to work abroad as domestics. Now many of the workers in that business are homeless.
RedSerpent Arts was started originally to support the journal Femspec. All payments made on line will go to Femspecsales and be made directly into the Femspec bank account.
a portion of our proceeds goes towards provision of art supplies and classes for beggar children in dharamsala, india.
